PROCEDURES

A. You are to use these files only in accordance to the instructions given by your teacher, Mrs. Ross in class, and consistent with Okaloosa County School District Student Code of Conduct and Technology Use standards.

B.Terms –

  • Podcast - for our class, podcast/ podcasting refers to the use of audio-only files created by teachers and students for educational purposes in the classroom.
  • Vodcast - the sister to the podcast, vodcast/ vodcasting refers to video files created by teachers and students for educational purposes in the classroom.
  • Digital Journaling - When given the "Go Ahead", students will be asked to maintain a digital journal of responses to assigned writing tasks. This journal will be maintained in complete form, and is the temporary property of our class, our school, and our county. As such, it is expected that students will comply with requests for appropriateness of content, while feeling free to express individual opinion and classroom oriented thoughts.
  • CPS (Classroom Performace System) - a.k.a. ClickR
  • Cite - to document sources that a person has used that belong to someone else, and to give credit to the original work's author.

C. Emailing/ Communicating outside of Class with Mrs. Ross - I have chosen to use Edmodo as our classroom's method of communicating from student to teacher outside of class. Please respect our district code of Conduct, as well as my request to keep all of your questions related to topics brought forth in class. Please also respect my privacy, as I choose not to use other forms of social media, e.g. Facebook or MySpace to communicate with students OR parents. The account address for Edmodo is: http://www.edmodo.com/mrsrossclassroomearth.  To participate in our group page, each student will need to have parent permission for a user account and password. We will address these needs within the first week of school. Thank you for your support!

IMPORTANT NEWS

How Exciting!  A classroom supply of IPADs, as well as an Apple server, ClickRs, and our REDcat speaker system! What a technologically-rich environment! We will combine all of this digital excellence with hands-on experience, rigorous reading and writing, as well as weekly opportunites for students to work with others outside of our classroom to further enhance our view of the greater communities and world around us.  What does this all mean? Picture this:

- Online access to classroom content for review at any time
- Touch-screen technology that makes explosions a lot less messy!
- Student recordings, movies, interviews and reporting created in hours, not days
- FaceTime video chat with mentor students for realtime communication between classrooms
- Whole group, small group, and individual instruction and conferencing for continuous feedback

Yet, all these things are the whipped cream and cherry. They are amazing utilities that we are very fortunate to use this coming year. The most important ingredient in this "sundae" is the ice cream - the passion and longing that each student silently brings though the classroom door on the first few days of school.  My goal is to make sure that this desire is stoked and maintained, and I'm looking to each student to do their part to gain what is offered.

Bring your "A" game, and a big bowl for that ice cream!

                                                                                                           Sincerely,
                                                                                                           Mrs. Ross
